Abstract

The complexity of modern aircraft structures continues to increase, and advanced structural damage detection technologies need to be applied on aircraft. Structural health monitoring technology can monitor the structural health status response in real time by advanced sensors, evaluate the residual life of the structure, and make maintenance decisions on the aircraft structure. It is a necessary method to keep the aircrafts operating safely and reliably in service. The paper summarizes the requirements of aircraft structural health monitoring and the development of multi-type monitoring technology, especially the Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) Sensor, which is promising in damage monitoring and shows great application potential. Then the research progress of two key aspects in structural health monitoring is described. Finally, the development trend of FBG sensors for aircraft structure in structural health monitoring technology is prospected.
