Abstract

Food, an emerging focus in the circular economy literature, plays an important but contradictory role while on holiday with positive personal experiences and negative sustainability consequences. Food waste, despite major and ongoing strides in sustainability research, remains an underresearched area across tourism, particularly by tourist households. In addition to existing methods to address food waste, social media offer diverse new approaches. this conceptual article begins a new sustainabilityrelated research stream exploring the intersections among consumers, food waste, tourist households, and social media and proposes five research agenda items. the agenda gives academics and practitioners practical and theoretical insights for current and future solutions, such as social media, to address food waste and tourist households.
