1968 CCCC Workshop Reports. They remind me again of every freshman English program's continuing dilemmas: defining objectives and methods. Whether or not our program is literature-centered, rhetoric-centered, language-centered, stylistics-centered, or communications-centered (any time one starts listing types of freshman writing programs he ends up sounding like Polonius), we always come back to the same old problems: (1) we are never secure that our objectives for the course are valid, and (2) we are never completely certain that our methods really achieve those objectives.
