Abstract

L-Lysine, an essential amino acid, has been obtained mainly by microbial production since Kinoshita et al.l) discovered in 1958 that a homoserine-requiring mutant of Corynebacterium glutamicum could accumulate a large amount of lysine in the medium. We have applied 13C NMR spectroscopy to studies of in vivo metabolism of the lysine producing mutant and its derivatives, as has been reported for the analysis of glutamic acid fermentation by Microbacterium ammoniaphilum.2)
