Abstract

Uecause education has been bharac terized traditionally as a woman's field, public awareness of discrimina tion against women within education has been slow to emerge. We intend in this article to describe discrimination against women in public education and to make recommendations for immedi ate corrective action by federal, state, and local education agencies, and uni versities and professional organizations, including Phi Delta Kappa, the inter national education fraternity which ex cludes women from membership.
