Abstract

FNA/ANA 24, 1999 FAO and the World Health Organization (WHO) periodically convene expert consultations on various topics in nutrition to ensure that their knowledge is up to date and to provide advice to member countries. One such consultation was held in April 1997 to review the role of carbohydrates in human nutrition. This resulted in a report (FAO/WHO, 1998) and a number of recommendations which are referred to throughout this article.
