Abstract

Liver microsomes contain an enzyme system, TPNH oxidase, which catalyzes the oxidation of TPNH by oxygen to yield TPN and hydrogen peroxide. This enzyme system has been implicated in the oxidative dealkylation of foreign alkylamines such as monomethyl-4-aminoantipyrine by liver microsomes and probably is involved in the other types of microsomal drug enzyme systems requiring TPNH and oxygen. Some possible mechanisms by which TPNH oxidase may participate in these drug enzyme systems are discussed.
