The polymeric procyanidin from the seed coat of sorghum grain has been isolated. Chemical studies show that it has a molecular weight in the region 1 700–2 000 and that it is derived biosynthetically from the condensation of the flavanol carbocation (5)(chain extender) and (+)-catechin (3)(chain inititor).
