Abstract

In the comprehensive process of lifetime learning, the introduction of m-learning systems, services and applications represents one of the main challenges in the area of ubiquitous computing (ubicomp). With the rapid development of mobile devices, the widespread provision of connectivity, as well as well-modeled learning services, all presumptions for effective m-learning implementations are fulfilled. The acceptance of such systems is however highly dependent on usability, implying particular emphasis on the design of both application user interfaces and interaction. In this paper we discuss a holistic approach to personalization of mobile human-computer interaction, targeting the improvement of the overall user experience. Within this context we analyze the possibilities for m-learning application adjustment regarding mobile device capabilities, student domain knowledge level, and interaction style and skills. Personalization issues are explained along with the respective functional models, with special focus on the menu component model, which is transformable according to users' navigation patterns.
