Abstract

The article presents part of the results of an empirical research addressed to study the adoption of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy by Brazilian enterprises (Borger, 2001). The main objective of the research was to analyse how some variables related with the CSR are associated with some of the variables that describe the technological innovation and the environmental performance of the company. It has adopted the case study approach. Three enterprises were studied. One of them was the Brazilian unit of the well-known multinational firm in the automotive sector, DaimlerChrysler. The other two enterprises were Brazilian-owned: De Nadai, from the food industry sector, and Natura from the cosmetics and perfumery sector. As a conclusion of the research, it was found that there were many evidences of a strong relationship between the adoption of a CSR strategy by the firm and an effective environmental and innovative performance.
