Abstract

Behind bars: A single molecule of the protein cytochrome c has been incarcerated within a rigid tetrahedral DNA cage (see picture). The central cavity is estimated to be large enough to accommodate a sphere of approximately 2.6 nm in radius, such as a 60-kDa globular protein (Mr of cytochrome c: 12.4 kDa). The finding demonstrates the potential of DNA containers as a new kind of drug-delivery system.
