Drying of a Turkish lignite (İspir-Karahan) in a batch fluidized bed was investigated. In the experiments, temperature and velocity of drying air and particle size of the lignite sample were chosen as parameters. It was found that the drying rate increased with increasing air temperature and air flow rate and with decreasing particle size. The effect of air temperature on the drying rate was found to be more significant than those of other parameters. It was also observed that the equilibrium moisture content and the time taken to reach equilibrium moisture decreased with increasing air temperature.
