Abstract

Wavelet packet modulation (WPM) is a novel multicarrier modulation technique and a promising alternative to the well established OFDM. The main drawback of multicarrier systems is their high sensitivity to frequency offset and phase noise. In this paper we investigate bit error rate (BER) performances of OFDM and WPM systems in the presence of carrier frequency offset and phase noise. BER is evaluated by means of computer simulations. In case of WPM several well-known wavelets such as Daubechies, Symlets, Coeiflets, discrete Meyer and biorthogonal wavelet are applied. The results of this research show how these wavelet-based systems cope with the frequency offset and phase noise in relation to OFDM.
