The beam quality factor <i>M</i><sup>2</sup><i>Q</i> of the LP<sub>01</sub> mode of the step-index fiber is calculated in a closed form. Propagation of the mode through an optical system can thereafter be described using the <i>ABCD</i> ray's matrix.
