Abstract

In animals with simple stomachs, the dietary triglycerides are largely emulsified and hydrolysed in the lumen of the gut by the action of bile and pancreatic lipase. These processes are important preliminaries to fat absorption, and in dogs and rats deprived of bile or pancreatic juice, fat absorption is significantly reduced (Annegers, 7954).
