A transplantable ascites variant, designated AS-30D, has been established from a 3′-methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene-induced rat hepatoma. The ascites cells appear epithelial in origin and grow in clusters. This system produces a high yield of tumor cells which can be obtained essentially free of nontumor cells and connective tissue.
