The real part, n , of the refractive index of pendant drops of laser‐heated liquid Al 2 O 3 was measured by laser ellipsometry at 0.6328 μm. At temperatures from 2327 to 2600 K, n for the liquid was 1.744 ± 0.016. No significant differences were observed in the results obtained on ruby specimens and in oxygen or argon atmosphres.
