It is distinguished from other redwine grapes grown in cool climates by its high degree of winterhardiness, adaptation to mechanized production systems, andability to survive in older plantings where other red wine grapesare lost due to tomato and tobacco ringspot virus infections. ‘GR7’ is a highly productive, easy to manage cultivar, and is the sixthwine grape to be developed by the New York State AgriculturalExperiment Station of Cornell University.
