Abstract

We present both theoretical and experimental details on the effects of cavity length deturning of the synchronously mode-locked CW dye laser. The theory predicts an increase in cavity length sensitivity with intracavity bandwidth, and an asymmetric variation in the pulsewidth and pulse power with length detuning from the "matched" position. The predictions are shown to be in close agreement with the results of our experiments on the Rhodamine 6G dye laser.
