A Synthetic Approach to the Isobacteriochlorin Macrocycle

Abstract

The first direct synthesis of an isobacteriochlorin, in model compound (3), has been achieved by combining the corrinoid A/B component (1) (RCN or COOtBu) with the porphinoid partner (2) (RBr). Isobacteriochlorins are of interest in connection with the biosynthesis of vitamin B12.
