Abstract Synthesis of bioactive cellulose derivatives was realized. The employed methods were the coupling of antibiotics and enzymes on various cellulose derivatives. The antibiotics were bound to cellulose carbonate and diazonium salts of cellulose aminoaromatic esters, giving compounds with good antimicrobian activity. In spite of the loss of mobility, attached enzymes still obey Michaelis‐Menten kinetics to a first approximation, i.e., yield linear Lineweaver‐Burk plots from which it is readily possible to extract characteristic values of the parameters. The Michaelis‐Menten constant for immobilized amyloglucosidase on cellulose carbonate at pH 8 was 8.42 mM, and the activation energy for starch hydrolysis was 22,100 cal/mole.
