The progressive antithrombin activity was measured by a two-stage assay, and the concentrations of antithrombin III, α2-macroglobulin, and α1 anti-trypsin immunochemically. The plasma samples examined were from one group of unselected patients, and from another group comprising those conditions which are associated with low progressive antithrombin activity (cirrhosis of the liver, thrombotic states, hereditary deficiency). In both groups, a strong positive correlation was only observed between the antithrombin III concentration and the progressive antithrombin activity.
