A great deal is being said in the press and in public discussions about the need for better education, especially in science, to serve our requirements for highly educated manpower. Less attention is being given to the need for a great deal more knowledge and understanding of science and issues connected with it on the part of the citizens whose opinions and votes profoundly influence national policy. Here is an article which discusses the need for such understanding in local politics as exemplified by the conflict over fluoridation.
