This monograph contains a total of 75 pages, 20 illustrations, 741 references, and 37 pages of narrative. The bibliography, according to the author, represents less than 20% of the available articles on the subject of toxemia in the literature in the 20th century. This monumental review effort may go down in history as the first issue of the long-awaited<i>Journal of Negative Results</i>, and is summed admirably by quoting the conclusion of the author in his next to last paragraph. "The inevitable conclusion is that at the present time we have no reliable evidence to determine whether or not there exist differences in incidence of eclampsia or preeclampsia which are attributable to geographical, racial or climatic factors"!
