Abstract The mature students' three Rs framework was formulated from a study investigating mature students' experience of higher education: motivations, expectations and outcomes. The study was based on new-paradigm research methods. The three Rs framework is of interest to, and useful for, advisers and counsellors working with adults in the process of change, including those working outside educational settings.
