Abstract

The Faraday rotation of n-type InSb has been measured for wavelengths between 8.0 and 13.0 \ensuremath{\mu}m at 9 K, using magnetic fields up to 150 kG. Measurements were made on samples with nominal carrier concentration of 1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{14}$, 6\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{14}$, 1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{15}$, and 5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{15}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}3}$. The experimental results have been successfully analyzed in terms of interband and intraband transitions at the \ensuremath{\Gamma} point in the Brillouin zone, using a quantum-mechanical treatment. The four-band k\ensuremath{\cdot}p Pidgeon and Brown model was used to calculate the energy levels and the matrix elements for these transitions.
