One of the most difficult surfaces to process for latent fingerprints is the sticky side of adhesive tapes. A formulation based on a phase transfer catalyst (PTC) and Rose Bengal dye has been proposed, which develops fingerprints on all type of adhesive tapes of such a quality that even third level detail can be seen. A time study has also been attempted in order to observe the shelf life of the reagent, as well as the viability of the formulation to develop old latent fingerprints. Developed fingerprints were found to be permanent unless the adhesive was removed from the tape with some force.
