ABSTRACT Chemical composition of the essential oil of a new cultivar of geranium has been investigated by capillary GC and GC/MS, and compared with that of the oil of an existing commercial strain. The characteristic feature of the new type is that its essential oil contains a high percentage of geraniol and low percentage of citronellol. Also, the oil has reduced amounts of citronellol and geraniol esters as compared with the oil of the existing strain. Agronomical investigations have been carried out on this new type under the agroclimatic conditions of Bangalore and compared with the existing commercial strain.
