Abstract There is a continuing need for a variety of means to selectively protect and deprotect functional groups. Several recent reports have introduced new methods for the selective protection and deprotection of hydroxyl groups.1 We wish to describe a new group, the β, β, β-trichloroethoxymethyl (TCEM) ether which we believe will prove useful in a variety of synthetic applications.
