Researchers and practitioners in the field of school psychology have had a long-standing interest in the principles and possibilities of educational and psychological consultation. In this article, we provide an overview of schoolbased consultation with an emphasis on knowledge gleaned from the school psychology literature yet relevant to consultants in other disciplines and human services settings. A wide range of information is incorporated into a discussion of origins, theoretical orientations and models, research strategies, and training considerations. We conclude with a set of practical recommendations for educational and psychological consultants.
