Abstract

We have applied the adiabatic bond-charge model to study atomic vibrations on the InP(110) surface. We provide a detailed analysis of polarization characteristics of important surface phonon modes. Our results for the relaxed surface geometry are in good agreement with recent high-resolution electron-energy-loss spectroscopy measurements and recent first-principles theoretical results, indicating that the adiabatic bond-charge model is a useful theoretical technique for studying phonon modes on semiconductor surfaces. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
