Abstract

1. In the rat, maximum rates of clearing of chyle by plasma in vitro at 37° C. were observed 1½ minutes after the injection of heparin. 2. A technique was developed whereby both the entry of chyle into the plasma and the circulation of blood through the liver could be interrupted in rats absorbing olive oil. High rates of clearing of added chyle by plasma obtained under such conditions were observed. 3. Evidence is presented for a close association between chyle and the clearing systems induced in plasma both by heparin injection and by fat feeding. 4. No heparin was detected in chyle which had been incubated with, and subsequently recovered from, plasma obtained both after the injection of small quantities of heparin and after fat feeding.
