Abstract The sorption of four fumigants by five typical products has been compared. The factors affecting the sorption of methyl bromide by onion seed have been studied. The rate of sorption appears to be governed by diffusion. A detailed study of the effect of moisture content on the sorption of methyl bromide by onion seed whole and ground and by wheat and wheatmeal has been carried out. Some hints on the behaviour of sorbed fumigants in dry and wet seeds have been obtained. The effect of the sorption of methyl bromide on the germination of onion seed has been investigated.
