Culture supernatants from dogfish leucocytes, exposed to the Ca 2+ ionophore A23187, were analyzed for eicosanoid production by gas chromatography‐electron capture mass spectrometry. Consistently high levels of the prostaglandins (PG) D 2 , F 2α and E 2 were produced, while thromboxane B 2 and leukotriene B 4 were found in smaller amounts. No 6‐oxo PGF 1α , a degradation product of prostacyclin, or 13,14‐dihydro‐15‐oxo‐PGF 2α , a metabolite of PGE 2 and PGF 2α , were detected. The results are compared with similar experiments using mammalian leucocytes.
