Abstract

Abstract The production of small quantities of a crystalline substance of high antirachitic activity, by the vacuum distillation of the products of irradiation of ergosterol, was described by by Askew et al. (1930, a). We have now been able, by improving the technique of preparation, to obtain this substance in larger quantity, and in a state of increased purity. The more detailed study of its behaviour which has now been possible has shown that the intense antirachitic activity is almost certainly inherent in the pure compound, and not due to a contaminant.
