Abstract

An apparatus is described for measuring the angular correlation of electron-positron pairs from light nuclei. The apparatus has been used to study the pairs emitted in the mono-pole transition from the first excited state of 16O. Measurements are also described of the excitation function for this state of 16O in the reaction 19F(p, α)16O, and of the absolute probability (half-life) of the monopole transition.
