A high performance video head with CoNbTaZr alloy laminated films was developed. The recording and reproduction characteristics of the head were measured with a high Hc metal tape. The head showed better reproduction efficiency than that of a ferrite head especially in the high frequency range because the lamination structure decreased the eddy current loss of the alloy films resulting in a higher effective permeability. The head also showed good recording characteristic because of its high saturation flux density (Bs-8300 gauss). NiO-MgO-TiO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> ceramic was developed as a head substrate and consequently a video head with high reliability as well as high wear resistance was realized.
