Holography with scatter plates

Abstract

Experiments exploring the possibility of applying scatter plates to three-dimensional holography of distributions which may be transilluminated are reported. Good depth discrimination of arrays of particles and of three-dimensional phase distributions made visible by interference are demonstrated. The versatility of the scatter plate is further demonstrated by examples of holograms made with white light and by Q-switched ruby lasers. The scatter screens required may be fabricated in the same apparatus used for holographic recording, and practical details are given.
