Approximate bandwidth and diffraction efficiency in thick holograms

Abstract

The approximate bandwidth and diffraction efficiency (DE) for thick holograms are derived in an extremely simplified fashion from considerations of the geometry of the holograms alone. The results agree with the exact expressions derived from coupled wave theory and afford a far more direct insight into the effect of the various geometric and material parameters with the hologram performance.
