Diffraction
Diffraction is a wave phenomenon in which the propagation of a wavefront is altered as it encounters an obstacle or aperture, causing the wave to bend and spread into the region of geometrical shadow, thereby distinguishing it from rectilinear propagation within the broader class of wave behaviors in acoustics, optics, photonics, and wave propagation.
