Abstract In the highly distorted regions surrounding a dislocation line the approximation of geometrical optics for the propagation of X‐rays is no more valid; diffraction phenomena then occur and give rise to the splitting of the wave fields incident upon these regions. The position of the points where these newly created wave fields originate and their direction of propagation are given theoretically. An experimental evidence of these new created wave fields is given using a double crystal spectrograph.
