Abstract

The clinical diagnosis of dementia in people with Down syndrome is complex. The authors describe a significant decline in adaptive functioning in Down syndrome individuals with dementia compared to that of Down syndrome non-demented group. A new method of confirming the diagnosis of dementia by means of serial assessment of decline in adaptive functioning is described.
