Abstract

A pulse echo overlap system, based on integrated circuits, is described. The equipment is relatively cheap and easy to construct and yet the sensitivity of transit time (and hence velocity of sound measurement) is limited initially only by the sensitivity of the frequency synthesizer. The application of the system to a study of the magnetic phase change in Gd at 291K is described.
