The literature on the history of childhood from 1500–1900 has examined evidence, attitudes, discipline, and developmental stages up to age twelve. The thesis critically re‑examines this literature. The study concludes with a summary and conclusions, supported by an appendix and bibliography. Preface and acknowledgements are included.
