Abstract The preparation of novel prostaglandin analogues from PGA 2 , isolated from marine corals, is outlined. The synthesis of prostaglandins that contain a cyclobutane instead of the cyclopentane ring is described. In addition, a detailed account of the total synthesis of prostaglandins by the tropolone route is given.
