Abstract

When cell suspensions containing normal mouse spleen or lymph node cells mixed with sheep erythrocytes are injected into heavily-irradiated mice, foci of hemolysin-producing cells are formed in the spleens of the recipients. A method is described for demonstration of these foci, and evidence is presented that they result from the proliferation of antigen-sensitive precursors of hemolysin-producing cells. The demonstration of the existence of “antigen-sensitive” cells provides strong support for the view that cell proliferation is involved in the generation of hemolysin-producing cells.
