Abstract

Monoclonal antibodies as catalysts for stereoselective reductions — a great step forward has been made toward fulfilling this aim. Antibodies against the oxidative flavin 1 could be prepared. They bind the oxidized form 1 about five orders of magnitude better than the reduced form 1′; this results in a lowering of the reduction potential of 1 from −206 mV (free 1) to −342 mV (antibody-bound 1). Safranine T cannot be reduced by free 1′, but can by antibodybound 1′.
