Semiclassical collision calculations for the broadening and shift of the sodium D lines by noble gases

Abstract

Line-broadening constants are calculated for the sodium D lines perturbed by He, Ne, Ar and Xe, and are compared with experimental data. Good overall agreement is found using the interatomic potentials calculated by Pascal and Vanderplanque (1974) and the collision calculation of Lewis and McNamara (1972).
