Abstract

IN a previous experiment, low hatchabilities of 4 and 12 percent were described from two lots of eggs obtained from an affected farm. In the second hatch 77 percent of malformed chicks (Teratoes) were produced. However, as the history of the flock producing the fertilized eggs was unknown, it was decided to raise chicks to maturity by feeding them affected grains, and then if possible, secure hatchable eggs. In this way the question of unknown stock would be removed. EXPERIMENTAL Chicks were brooded on an experimental table similar to that described by Carrick (1925) except that half-inch mesh hardware cloth was used for the floor. The brooder table was located in a well-lighted basement and lighting and heating conditions were the same for all four pens.
