For pt.I, see ibid., vol.7, no.23, 4416 (1974). Photoemission spectra have been recorded for several of the dichalcogenides of group VA and VIA transition metals, using incident photon energies in the range 16.8-48.4 eV. The transition between octahedral and trigonal prismatic coordination in group VA, is accompanied by changes both in the p-electron and d-electron derived valence bands. The results are discussed in the light of recent band structure calculations, and the observation of charge density waves in some of these materials.
